Why we're having a big summer sale as a fair fashion company

Yes, we're having a big super sale at the moment. And we might reduce our prices even more in the next months.
Why? How come we reduce our prices so drastically as an ethical fashion company? Shouldn't we offer fair prices, fair calculations for the producers AND the customers? Shouldn't we share how much clothing should be valued and not just consumed at cheap prices? Do you not stand for fashion change but just want to make a lot of money? Why do you have stock left over, isn't that fashion waste?
We have an answer for you, but it's not as simple as you might think.
- We won't actually make much money from such a big sale. We will be happy if we will make any profit. Our production and development costs were very high, especially because we produce in small quantities. So this is not a money making campaign. We will probably (hopefully) just recover the costs of production, storage, shipping, etc... since our margins were never that high.
- Even though we tried to plan ahead as well as possible, we still have stock left over. Not much, but it's still better to sell it at a cheaper price than to just store in a warehouse. Our fashion should be worn and used. Our items are flattering and practical, they belong on you, not on shelves :)
- Even though our size range is not inclusive (S-XL, in some items XS-XXL, and we have very oversized cuts that fit a lot of in between sizes) we struggled with leftover stock in specific sizes. For example we thought L would be a popular size and ordered a bit more of it. But it turns out, S was our most popular size. That is also one reason why we have stock left over, even though we tried to plan sustainably and in small quantities.
- We are paying the warehouse for storing our items safely so that they can be shipped ASAP even when I am on vacation or not available. That means storage costs. At one point it is better for us to sell clothing cheaper and sooner rather than to store it for a long time and wait until someone buys it at full price.
- We learned a lot from our last collection, we have to work on packaging, timing, our size range, better model photos, etc. so that in the next collection we can offer you more details, clear launch dates, etc. Things like this also impact our sales, so that we missed out on some business opportunities (we are fair fashion lovers first, business people only second haha).
- We also want to finance our next collection so we need to sell what we have now even though we might not profit personally from a big reduction in price. But we want to keep going and bring more of our ethical fashion ideas to life!
- Again, our clothing is meant to be WORN! Not to be forgotten or stored on shelves. It took us a long time to develop these items, find the perfect sustainable and still affordable fabric and to create styles that are flattering, elegant AND practical (just remember our big pockets in ALL of our dresses! Our our adjustable belts in the midi dress. Or our oversized jumper that fits a lot of in between sizes!). So we would rather sell it for cheaper than have it just sit on shelves and not worn.
Wow! That was a LONG answer :) I hope this made it all a bit clearer why we are doing a big sale on all items and why we are maybe reducing our prices even more in the next months (but I wouldn't recommend to wait if you don't need to, specific sizes might be sold out and we won't restock!)
